AAUW Work Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop in Summit, NJ
53 Impressions
The Work Smart workshop was created by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and is designed to help women negotiate for a new job, raise, or promotion. The objectives of this workshop are to help women learn:
How to identify and articulate your personal value
How to develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and other negotiation strategies, including how to get a raise or promotion
How to conduct objective market research to benchmark a target salary and benefits
About the wage gap, including its long-term consequences as women age and the pay disparity increases
Who should attend?
The seminar is designed for women who are working or seeking employment and who want to become more effective and more confident in negotiating positions, pay, and benefits. We’ll be using the online Work Smart workshop as the basis for our discussions, so please bring a laptop or tablet to create your own plan during our session.
How is this workshop different from the free online Work Smart program you could complete at home? At the workshop, you get the added benefit of peer input and feedback. You’ll hear from other working women about strategies they’ve used successfully and the challenges they face. Our facilitator will provide opportunities for discussion, coaching, and sharing.
Join the networking session following the workshop.
During our networking session, you can connect with other women in the working world to share opportunities, knowledge, and concerns.
Negotiation skills matter!
This course was designed in response to the continuing pay gap women experience regardless of their social and educational background. AAUW’s research on the gender pay gap shows that one year out of college, women are already paid significantly less than men. Women who work full time take home 80 cents for every dollar a full-time male worker is paid. And over a lifetime, those lost potential earnings add up. By negotiating fair and equitable salaries, women are better able to pay off loans, buy the things they want and need, and save for retirement. There’s more, too: Women who negotiate for a higher salary and better benefits package now increase their potential for future remuneration.
At the current rate, the national gender pay gap will not close until 2106. In 2018, AAUW announced a bold pledge: by 2022 we will train 10 million women to negotiate salary more effectively. We can no longer wait for policies and employer culture alone to determine when we reach parity. Instead, we are working to empower women nation-wide with skills to negotiate their position, salary, and benefits with confidence and become agents of change in their communities.
Of course, if you cannot attend the session on November 18, please do take the online session on your own: https://salary.aauw.org/
