Join us for a great picnic and celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the BMW 8 Series (E31). SoCalEights has kept the "Passion for Excellence" alive for the past 12 years through social events and attendance at significant car shows each year. This year, 30 years after the inaugural event, we come together to show our appreciation for the cars and the SoCalEights group for its continuing activity and keeping the E31 community active in Southern California. Yorba Regional Park, Shelter #2 is a fabulous location to hold this event with a children's play area 50 yards away (and bathrooms close by!) Come join us for great food from the famous Fiesta Taco Co., a car show and raffle drawings for fun prizes!
We are also offering 30th Anniversary t-shirst for sale in the Eventbrite. You can order your tshirt and we will make every effort to have it for you at the picinic.
The 8 Series debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in early September 1989. Over 1.5 billion Deutsche Mark was spent on total development (2019 USD nearly $900 million). BMW used CADtools, still unusual at the time, to design the car's all-new body. Combined with wind tunnel testing, the resulting car had a drag coefficient of Cd=0.29, a major improvement from the previous BMW M6/635CSi's 0.39.
