This month's topic is how to break barieers in the world of technology, and we're hosting two powerful women leaders and founders to share how they broke in both having worked with fortune 100 companies and startups in Detroit.

Monica Wheat, Director of Backstage Detroit
Monica Wheat is a Strategist, Educator, and Venture Developer leading Backstage Detroit. She is the Founder + Partner at Venture Catalysts, a venture and ecosystem development group. Monica also served as an Advisor + Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Grand Circus Detroit, where she's led projects focused on EdTech, corporate partnerships, and diversity + inclusion. She's the Founder + Executive Director of Digerati Girls, Inc./Digerati Kids, a non-profit that has helped over 7,000 Detroit-area students gain skills and an introduction to careers in digital technology and entrepreneurship. Monica is extremely invested in the Detroit startup community and similar emerging tech ecosystems. She's the Lead for Techstars Startup Programs including Detroit Startup Week and Startup Digest Detroit/Ann Arbor, and she's also Co-founder + City Director of Startup Boost Detroit, a global pre-accelerator.
Katrina Turnbow, Founder Kanopi Digital Marketing Firm & Google Digital Coach
Katrina Turnbow calls on the expertise she gained in previous sales and marketing positions to build recognition and attract new business for her clients through her boutique marketing firm Kanopi Social and in partnership with Google as the Detroit Digital Coach. Katrina was identified by Google, as one of nine community leaders passionate about creating economic opportunities for businesses currently underrepresented on the web and in Google's customer base. Katrina provides business owners, guidance on improving their web presence, reaching new customers online and growing their business through online advertising platforms.
A graduate of Florida A&M University, Katrina gives back to the community in which she lives and works. She was recognized as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Women in Detroit in 2013, MIchigan Chronicles 40 under 40 in 2017.
