Weekend Warrior Paddle League (WWPL) -- SIGN UP NOW!
It’s time to sign up for the 9th season of the WWPL. The league was started in 2011 by experienced (read, “old…er”) paddle players from Hinsdale Paddle, Salt Creek Club, and Hinsdale Golf Club, who were dedicated to continuing the growth and level of play among paddle players in the Hinsdale area, which now has countless (does anyone know?) players at all levels, enjoying the game at a total of 36 platform tennis courts at nine locations (including the first two courts at Burns Field).
WWPL matches are played on Saturdays at Hinsdale Paddle’s Katherine Legge Park (KLM) site and the following area clubs – Hinsdale Golf Club (HGC), Salt Creek Club (SCC), Butterfield Country Club (BCC), Chicago Highlands (CH), Ruth Lake Country Club (RL), Edgewood Valley Country Club (EVCC), and LaGrange Country Club (LGCC).
Dates: The 2019/2020 WWPL season will start with Open Play on Saturday Oct. 26, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9. The Annual Draft will take place on Nov. 10, and Team Play will begin on Nov. 16. The season will continue through February, allowing for holiday breaks, followed by end-of-season playoffs. A full schedule of dates will be posted shortly.
League Fees: The fee this year has been reduced to $90.00, but Sub fee has been increased to $45.00. We hope this encourages more folks to “go all in”, as well as identify a group of Subs that will be “go to” players. (There is a separate one-time sub fee of $10 for the occasional sub.) All fees cover match balls, refreshments (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), prizes and administrative costs.
Captains: – Responsibilities include the draft, scheduling matches, and assistance with refreshments. Fees are waived in appreciation for your assistance. Depending on the number of players, Captains will draft teams among the two or three flights. There will be 9 - 11 on a roster and 6 players per team will play each week. [Note: Captains cooperate among each other to schedule “friendly” matches to limit forced “sits” – this was very successful last season.]
Provide following information with registration:
Name and Contact Information (email and phone)
Name of Club (indicate multiple clubs, as appropriate)
Travels Series (1 – 30). (If you don’t play travel, mark NA, and provide information on your playing experience in Notes (years of paddle, tennis experience, playing partners, etc.) to aid Captains and Commissioners during the draft.)
Interest in serving as a Captain or other volunteer opportunities including Flight Commissioner, beer coordination, NetLineup support, promotions/advertising, prizes, special events (kickoff and playoffs).
Availability -- estimate your availability for matches (>75%, 50-75%,
Other – We welcome comments on your past experience with WWPL and any suggestions to improve the program. Also, provide any notable availability issues.
We would like to thank the Hinsdale Paddle and various participating Club representatives and Paddle Professionals for their assistance in organizing and coordinating this community-based League!
