The Charles Bender Theatre along with The Liberty Opry present Jivin' Gene Bourgeois.
'50s and '60s recording and “swamp pop” artist, Jivin’ Gene Bourgeois, from Port Arthur, Texas will be entertaining us tonight! Gene had several recordings in the top 100 charts in the early ’60s. “Breaking Up is Hard to Do,” “Going Out with the Tide,” “Release Me,” and “Go On Go On” are just a few. Gene was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 1993, the Museum of the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame in 1995 and received the Louisiana Hall of Fame Living Legend Award on June 1st, 2003. At 78, he can still easily bounce into one of his great upbeat tunes and then smoothly saunter into a slow love song.
Along with local artist, Vicky Knobloch, from the Atascocita area, Jay Cantu, and the Liberty Opry Band, we’ll take a stroll down memory lane. Comedian “Booger Lee” will also be serving up some great laughs too. Come join us for a fabulous time!
