Curious about working with scent in the context of your creative practice? Always wanted to learn how to make perfume, but didn't know where to start? IAO founder Saskia Wilson-Brown has got you AMPLY covered.
Join us for a 2 hour exploration of the basics of scent with an emphasis on storytelling. This session is designed for beginners to learn about working with scent as part of their creative practice. Class will cover the history of perfumery, the contemporary industry, and focus on experimental practices and storytelling. Get the basics while smelling (and discussing) a curated selection of molecules - using the story of Baba Yaga and Vassilisa the Fair as a throughline.
Most importantly, in this session you'll learn basic blending strategies: We will do several group blends, and talk about different applications and strategies for exhibiting and sharing scent. Any questions, of course, will be amply answered.
These sessions take place at our Chinatown HQ

When we host a class or workshop, we often order the materials to be used in the class well in advance, based on how many people have signed up (and padding a bit for safety). We also use class proceeds to pay our teachers. Although we realize that life has a funny way of getting in the way of the best laid plans, as a small non-profit we cannot afford to carry the burden of lost proceeds and materials.
With that in mind, here is our refund policy:
– Cancellation with refund or credit requests made 2 weeks or more (14 days) before the scheduled class will be honored with gusto! We’ll miss you, but will 100% refund your spot, or give you credit for another class. – Refunds or class credits requested less than 14 days before the scheduled class: We will refund you 50% of your class fee. Why? Because we’ve already ordered the materials. – Refunds or class credits requested less than 48 hours before the class, on the day of the class or after the class has happened will not be granted.
