Hello from the School of Civility! This autumn, we would like to introduce a two-part concert series featuring a matinee performance of classical music or dance of at least 90-minutes. This lesson prepares children to behave in an adult setting and to interact with fellow attendees in public (and / or minimally navigate around them). Children learn how to sit through a performance well-behaved, whether they like the performance or not (it happens to us all. After the concert, the Director of the School will host a dessert social where students can express their critical appreciation.
Children learn interpersonal skills and interact with peers and fellow attendees in a public setting. The performance should inspire students to express their opinion honestly regarding the arts---there is no right or wrong opinion, though there is a right or wrong way to express one's opinion. More importantly, children learn how to give constructive criticism when voicing their dislikes.
