Studio 9 is pleased to announce a five-day color-theory workshop taught by Spilimbergo-trained Master mosaicist Marzia Truant from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15 through Wednesday, March 19, 2019 in Oakland, California. Marzia will lead students through exercises using Italian smalti and the direct method. Participants may choose to work with mosaic nippers and/or hammer and hardie. In part one of the workshop, students will learn to work with optical mixtures to create vibrating surfaces, use colors to create third colors when viewed from a distance, and more. Marzia will describe techniques to make colors work together, to be more vibrant or subtle, bold or harmonious. In part two of the workshop, students will apply color theory to an 8x8-inch abstract mosaic with a gradient of colors, learning how to switch from one color to another.
Tuition: $850; Materials fee: $100
