Advance institutional goals established as part of your APLU IEP University and/or Carnegie Community Engagement Classification process.
Prepare for the five-year Carnegie re-classification process, the five-year APLU IEP University report, or the ten-year IEP University designation renewal.
Deepen, strengthen, and accelerate partnerships with the institution’s communities (including neighborhoods, regions, business and industry, government) toward realizing the public good of university engagement, learning, and discovery.
Build and expand intra-institutional collaborations between departments, divisions, and other internal units involved in doing engagement, supporting engagement, and assessing engagement.
Better scaffold partnership and engagement efforts of all kinds by building powerful internal collaborative structures as well as external partnerships.

1:00 – 1:30Introductory/Icebreaker ActivityAfter a short introduction to the workshop by the facilitators, participants will have an opportunity to share their goals for participating in the workshop in the context of their institution’s IEP designation and/or Carnegie Engagement classification follow-on plans.
1:30 – 2:00 Introduction to Strategic DoingStrategic Doing teaches people how to form collaborations quickly, move them toward measurable outcomes, and make adjustments along the way. Strategic Doing lends itself well to the work of engagement, both in forming external partnerships with community organizations as well as developing more effective internal collaborations between departments involved in engagement activities. This introduction will provide participants with the basic constructs of Strategic Doing as well as examples of how this agile collaboration approach has been used.
2:00 – 4:00Strategic Doing SimulationParticipants will experience and practice Strategic Doing in small groups. They will be guided through an interactive Strategic Doing process using a scenario that could be applicable to an institution receiving an IEP designation or Carnegie Engagement classification.

4:15 – 5:00DebriefWorkshop participants will have an opportunity to share simulation outcomes from their small groups, discuss their experiences using Strategic Doing in the simulation, and consider how Strategic Doing could be applied in their own contexts.
5:00 – 5:30 Strategic Doing at Your InstitutionWorkshop facilitators will provide participants with information about in-depth Strategic Doing training opportunities, how they can receive support to plan and implement Strategic Doing to advance their IEP and Carnegie engagement aspirations, and how Strategic Doing can be used in contexts that go beyond IEP and Carnegie Engagement activities.
