This seminar will introduce attendees to the fundamentals of nonprofit communications and marketing. Attendees will learn how to write and distribute press releases, build a low-cost D.I.Y website, create and deploy D.I.Y. low-cost eblast campaigns, promote your nonprofit via free online advertising programs and e-marketing tools, and maximize your social media platforms for awareness and fundraising strategies.
About the Presenters
• Chris Carter oversees all marketing, communications, and governmental affairs for the San Diego Food Bank. Prior to joining the Food Bank, Carter worked as Director of Public Affairs for the British Property Federation (BPF), the UK’s national trade association for the commercial property industry. Prior to joining the BPF, Carter worked as a Research Associate for the Adam Smith Institute, one of the UK’s leading economic think tanks. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree, he worked in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher for the JET Program. Carter holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of London.
• Digital Marketing and the strategy of this medium must be in Jenny Mendoza’s DNA, as a Digital Strategist for San Diego-based marketing and advertising firm, Mancuso Media, LLC, she can’t help but think about the ways nonprofits and businesses can improve their presence online and put new marketing tactics into action. The ability to look at where an organization wants to be in the marketplace, making adjustments to various online channels to attain specific and measurable goals is her specialty. With over 20 years in online & offline Sales, Marketing & eCommerce, Jenny has been working with tools like Google AdWords since their inception (early 2000’s) and is energized with the new directions this medium takes and how it changes almost daily. Keeping up with online marketing trends, how people use their devices, emerging channels, management tools and products is something that keeps Mancuso Media at the forefront of agencies and their clients at the top of online results.
Stephanie Schauer joined the San Diego Food Bank’s Communications Department after graduating from San Diego State University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Media Studies. As the Food Bank’s Communications & Marketing Associate, Stephanie’s role focuses on social media and technology while creating content for and maintaining the Food Bank’s social media platforms and website. Schauer is a graduate of LEAD San Diego’s EMBARK Program (Class of 2015), and plans to continue her career development and education in both marketing and nonprofit communications in the coming year.
