Washington State almost led the nation in job growth over the past year. One of the major issues facing the construction sector locally is the lack of enough trained workers to fill the jobs. Nationwide, contractors have trouble meeting their labor demands. A national poll of 1,600 contractors found 78% percent have trouble filling jobs. The City of Tacoma, Bates Technical College, and Sound Outreach have partnered up to identify and recruit local residents entering into construction pre-apprenticeship programs to gain the skills they need for high-demand, family-wage jobs.
